Selling to MotorSignet

Where can I sell a prestige, classic or collector car in the UK?

MotorSignet is a specialist direct buyer of prestige, performance, classic and collector cars, based at 43 Berkeley Square in London. You sell your car to us directly, with no public listing and no dealer in the middle: send the registration or a few details and a specialist reviews it personally, then makes a direct purchase offer if it fits what we buy.

Who buys collector cars directly in the UK?

MotorSignet buys collector and enthusiast cars directly from their owners, rather than listing them for sale or taking them on consignment. A specialist reviews each car personally and makes a direct purchase offer if it fits what we buy, with inspection, secure payment and collection arranged, and no public advertising at any stage.

How do I sell a car without publicly listing it?

MotorSignet buys prestige, performance, classic and collector cars off-market, so you can sell yours without ever advertising it publicly. There is no public listing at any stage, which means no strangers messaging you and no listing-site haggling: a specialist reviews the car privately and makes a direct offer.

Selling privately

Is there any obligation?

None. A private assessment costs you nothing and commits you to nothing. You decide whether to go further.

How discreet is the process?

Completely. There's no public listing and no listing-site noise, your brief is handled privately from first enquiry to completion.

Do you handle both sourcing and selling?

Yes. Tell us what you're looking to acquire, or what you're looking to sell, and a specialist will work your brief directly.

What if my vehicle is on finance?

Not a problem. We settle outstanding finance directly with your lender as part of completion and pay the balance to you. Tell us up-front and we'll cover it together.

What kind of cars do you buy?

Prestige, performance, classic, collector, luxury and other high-value or specialist cars. Not sure yours fits? Ask anyway, and a specialist will tell you honestly.

How quickly will I get an offer?

Usually within 48 hours of your enquiry. A specialist reviews your car by hand first, then comes back with a direct offer. Prefer to talk? Call and we'll take the details there and then.

Do you buy private number plates?

Yes. Cherished and private registrations are bought directly, whether on retention, on a certificate, or still on the car. Send the mark and where it sits, and a specialist reviews it personally.

Do you buy imported, left-hand drive or unregistered cars?

We consider them case by case. Left-hand drive, right-hand drive, fresh imports and cars not yet UK-registered can all be looked at, subject to provenance, paperwork and checks. If there's no UK registration to enter, contact us with the make, model, year and chassis (VIN) number instead, or call and a specialist will take the details.

Can you buy a car that is outside the UK?

Yes, when the car calls for it. It depends on the car, its provenance, paperwork, transport and the checks involved; where a purchase needs it, we work with trusted logistics, import/export and documentation specialists so the route is handled properly. Tell us where the car is and a specialist will say honestly what's involved.

What paperwork do you need?

For a UK-registered car: the V5C, service history and any invoices or provenance that support the car. For imports and unregistered cars: the chassis (VIN) number, purchase or export paperwork and anything that evidences ownership. Finance is fine to have outstanding; tell us up front and we settle it directly with the lender as part of completion.

Do you buy cars that need work?

Condition informs the offer, it doesn't rule a car out. Tell us up-front about any mechanical work, modifications or incomplete history, and we'll assess it on its own terms.

Do I need the logbook in my name?

To buy a car legally we need the V5C in your name, or a clear paper trail (for example a finance lender's letter). If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll talk it through.

I'm selling a car from a family member's estate. Can you help?

Yes, and we handle these quietly and at your pace. If you're an executor or administrator, get in touch and a specialist will explain what's needed (usually a grant of probate or letters of administration, the V5C and your ID) and arrange inspection, payment and collection privately. No obligation, and nothing is ever listed publicly.

Inspection, payment & completion

How does completion work?

If you accept an offer, inspection, secure payment and collection are arranged privately. We aim to complete within 7 days where checks and paperwork are ready.

How and when do I get paid?

By bank transfer at handover, confirmed before the car goes anywhere. If there's outstanding finance we settle it directly with your lender as part of completion and pay the balance to you.

Will the offer change when you collect the car?

The offer is agreed on the details you share, subject to the car being as described. The inspection confirms that; it isn't used to chip the price down. If something material genuinely differs from what you told us, we talk it through openly rather than spring a deduction on you.

How quickly will you reply?

We aim to reply within 24 hours. Completion, if you accept an offer, is usually within 7 days, subject to the necessary checks.

Do I have to bring my car to you?

No. Inspection and collection are arranged privately, wherever you are in the UK.

Do you buy cars outside the UK?

Yes. MotorSignet is based at 43 Berkeley Square in London and buys exceptional cars worldwide. For suitable cars, we can arrange travel, inspection, secure payment and collection wherever practical.

What if my car is on finance?

Not a problem. We settle outstanding finance directly with your lender as part of completion and pay the balance to you. Tell us up-front and we'll cover it together.

Can I sell on behalf of a family member?

Only if you have written authority and the registered keeper's photo ID. If it's a deceased estate, please get in touch first.

Sourcing a car

Can you source a specific car?

Yes, though this is secondary to our private buying. Tell us what you're after and we'll work our private network on your behalf, no public listing.

Is there any obligation to source?

None. Telling us what you're after costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.

Privacy & data

What do you do with my data?

We act as a data controller under UK GDPR. We use your data to review your car, contact you, and complete a sale. We never sell it. Full detail in our Privacy Policy.

How do I unsubscribe?

Reply STOP to any SMS, or click 'unsubscribe' in any email. We honour STOP server-side and stop all marketing within minutes.
